ROYALIST REGATTA

The Club will be taking part in The Royalist Regatta on 13/14 May. It is an excellent sailing event, with two days' sailing and an unforgettable Black Tie Dinner on board HMS Warrior. A fleet of Sunsail 37s is available for a practice day, and a second day of four short races in the Solent. The programme concludes with a prize-giving by HRH The Earl of Wessex.

Hopefully Prince Edward will also skipper one of the yachts as usual, in the four short races. Gunwharf Quay in Portsmouth is the base.

Members could join in in three ways:

- A CLYC crew is formed of individual members to take a boat in the Club’s name - let Edward Sankey know (details below) and he is very happy to compile the crew list. (Many thanks to Vice Commodore Michael Wilkey for this idea!)
- Members seek other crewmen from their Livery Company. Edward would be pleased to make up full crews by putting Company groups together.
-
If a Company can find an eight man crew they can have their own yacht!

The Haberdashers, led by CLYC member Alasdair Kirk, will be there again as will Edward’s Company, the Management Consultants. Apart from the official prizes, Edward foresees an informal challenge among members!

The cost for a crew of eight is £5,500, ie £687.50 per person. Perhaps Companies' Charitable Trusts could be encouraged to contribute to some of the cost, in support of the Sea Cadets' activities.

This is a few days before the Club's own Annual Race at Cowes. Edward wouldn't want the Royalist Regatta to reduce participation in our sailing competition. However the two events are very different and to do both would make great variety.

The website for this event is www.ms-sc.org/Corporate-Information/Newsroom-and-Events/Events . Edward (tel 07966 031 931, E.J.Sankey@dial.pipex.com ) or the organiser Janet Picton 020 7654 7000 would be pleased to answer any questions.
