COWES WEEKEND 2008

The Commodore joined the crew of 'The Innholder' for the race Twelve yachts of varying sizes entered for the 39th race of the City Livery Yacht Club in Cowes on Saturday 17 May 2008; the difference from the previous year was that, although it was cold and mizzly, there was very little wind. The Race Officer, from the Royal Corinthian Yacht Club, was again responsible for the handicapping.
Ten yachts finished, which was considered good going under the circumstances. It was clearly an advantage to know the Cowes shoreline!

The Commodore, Peta Walmisley, in welcoming the members and the guests to the dinner in the evening, paid tribute to the hospitality of the Royal Corinthian Yacht Club and thanked Alexis Dogilewski, their Vice Commodore. She welcomed new members, as well as several Masters of Livery Companies, including new members Hugh Evans, Master Innholder, and Martin Gatte, Master Lightmonger, as well as Richard Hollis, recently installed Master Woolman, and David Alexander, Master Plumber.

In announcing the results of the race, the Commodore invited the Admiral to present the awards:

  • The Lord Mayor's Cup for first place to James Crockatt of the Dyers in Jump & Shout
  • The Silver Jubilee Cup for second place to David Lippold of the Lightmongers in The Lightmonger
  • The Commodore's Cup for third place to Richard Hollis, Master Woolman, in Crakajax

As is customary, the Anne Glover Cup for the highest placed Innholder yacht was presented, in this case, by Tony Brighton to Hugh Evans in 'The Innholder'.

The Commodore also presented a bottle of port to Alexis Dogilewski and a bouquet of flowers to Janet Walker, CLYC Secretary.
